On The Side

“You have power over your mind - not outside events.
Realize this, and you will find strength.”
― Marcus Aurelius,

Morning work

Warm up
EMOTM 5
5 Strict Press
5 Bar good mornings

EMOTM 5
5 Burpees
5 Air squat

Skill - 10 minute
P bar & Balance beam varied

1 RM Sumo DL - only hit 205 today, just not focused
1RM Single arm press - 35# Right arm, need to get the Left arm caught up!

Hanging at the winery waiting for the carpool bus ... not a bad spot to hang!
5 sets
10 Sandbag DL (5each side)
20 sit ups
20 push ups
20 squats

Got that 300 in easy peasy. Push ups are still a bit of an effort in the last 2 rounds when I do sets of 20.

Afternoon work

Well, swung by the gluten free bakery to find some quick carb options and tried a blonde brownie & cinnamon kind of snicker doodle. These are just not my go to things. Even in the post workout window which is where I choose to eat these. I was hoping to find some holiday treat choices. I am not really into baking but I certainly like to be brought back to those memories with a family recipe. I will keep trying.

10 minutes of tire flipping
10 mile bike
2 mile hike

Really enjoying this effort. More therapeutic than anything. Not for time just that Low Intensity Stead State but the scenery is wonderful and my daughter was with me on this one. Lots of chatting, minimal sweat.

Don't Sweat It!

“To be free of destructive stress don't sweat the small stuff and by realizing that all stuff is small.”

Morning Flush
#300aDay #CoolCA
1 hour Dry Sauna
Every 5 minutes 10 reps of each movements
Yep, this was new, slow and steady, breath, hydrate and find a rhythm through the hour.

Water and egg breakfast on arugula. Coffee break ;)

Afternoon Grind
Row 800
Bike 10 miles
Hike 2 miles

Hankering for a mini tri today, but the swim was out. So subbed a row to start the grind. Hike had rolling hills, good cardio output (aka LISS) today. Think this was close to 45/50 minutes.

Anywhere - Sutter Buttes

I know that our bodies were made to thrive only in pure air, and the scenes in which pure air is found. ~ John Muir

Beautiful day to get out and experience anywhere. Finally, finally I was able to make an outdoor excursion with the box. Today the CrossFit Anywhere gang was off for a Saturday wod 'run' but some of us made it a 2+ mile hike. The grade was steep and constant, the first quarter mile was actually a run, but when I realized I could walk faster than run, it changed. I found it challenging to adjust my breathing in the first mile (a 2,ooo ft ascent), but as we progressed I found a much better flow as we pushed onward and upward. The last hundred yards, Blair coached, choppy fast steps and I was thankful to finish strong. A very red face, thankful for the light breeze and 39ish minutes later, I had arrived at the top of the Sutter Buttes.

Come to find out, this was a real treat. There's an aura of mystery around the Sutter Buttes because they have been closed off.

The Buttes, referred to as the smallest mountain range in the world, stand out in jagged craggy points - a castle in the sky. The view behind us reaches all the way from Mt. Shasta to downtown Sacramento on a very clear day. We were fortunate, it had been extremely windy the two weeks prior to our visit, so we had a great trek to the top but the far reaching view alluded us on this spring morning. As you can see, you can still see quite far behind us here. The North Butte is off to our right and a beautiful setting flowing from the valleys to the farmland.

I did not jump into the slam ball session with the crew but opted to tram it up to the tower with the 'masters' and enjoy a little historical tour of the very active relay station. Here we have the Sacramento side of the view behind us. If you look real close, you can see the rice fields and a small burn going on down there.

We trekked down to the Sutter Buttes Brewery for a perfect post hike meal, some great small town atmosphere and getting to know our peeps just that much more.
